DSHS - Mental Health Specialty - Level 1

This course is a DSHS approved online Instructor led training for caregivers, resident managers, and providers in long term care settings. Students will learn about common mental disorders, trauma informed care, supports for care, getting help, suicide prevention, communication, boundaries, behaviors, crisis management & more. 

This one day specialty class follows the DSHS created curriculum. This is an 8 hour class & certificate which can be used for:

  • Meeting a job requirement

  • As part of the population specific training toward 75 hour HCA training completion

  • As continuing education credit

About This Course:

  • Textbook provided in the classroom. 

  • Class is instructor-led either in-person or via zoom as arranged, and includes Instructor lecture, group work, and a written exam at the end of the day.

  • Exam must be passed with 80% or higher to receive the certificate.

    • You may reschedule 1 time for free, within 30 days of the course if the initial exam is not passed during class.

    • Retesting is typically offered on Saturday mornings at 9:00am.

  • Students can speak to the admin team to set up if needed.

As we update our course schedule for 2025, please note that each class is subject to cancellation if enrollment does not meet the required registration minimum.

  • All registered students will be notified via email prior to the course start date.

  • Any payments made will be fully refunded.
