The Nurse Delegation Program, under Washington State law, allows nursing assistants and home care aides working in certain settings to perform certain tasks--such as administration of prescription medications or blood glucose testing--normally performed only by licensed nurses.

A registered nurse must teach and supervise the nursing assistant, as well as provide nursing assessments of the patient's condition.

This course is offered in multiple languages. All versions will be available for download via your email confirmation.

  2. Students read through the State curriculum workbook and complete the workbook homework packet.

  3. Students complete & pass the written exam in-person to receive the certificate.

Additional instructions will be emailed to you with your course materials. After purchase within 48 hours you will be contacted to schedule an in-person testing day . Your testing day will be scheduled within 90 days of purchase.

About This Course:

  • This class is self-study.

  • The student will work at their own pace to complete all course material and exercises in the course workbook.

  • Students must schedule an exam date at the time of registration by entering the date during the checkout process.

    • You may reschedule 1 time for free.

  • Testing is done in person at a set time and at a mutually agreed location.

  • A 9 hour course certificate is awarded upon 80% or above on the exam.

Who is required to obtain Nurse Delegation training?

According to Washington State DSHS requirements WAC 246-840-930 and WAC 246-841-405 the following LTC workers must obtain nurse delegation training before accepting delegated tasks:

  • Home care aides (HCAs) working in a residential care facility

  • Nursing assistants (NACs/NARs) working in a residential care facility

  • Independent providers (IP) for a home-care agency or through the COPES program
