This DSHS-approved, 8-hour specialty training provides caregivers with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to safely and compassionately support individuals living with diabetes.

Throughout the course, caregivers will explore essential diabetes concepts, including types of diabetes, signs and risk factors, prevention, blood sugar management, nutrition, medications and potential side effects, common complications, and the challenges individuals may experience while living with diabetes.

Through instructor-led discussion, group activities, and case studies, students will learn how to apply person-centered and trauma-informed approaches to diabetes care. The course also emphasizes effective communication, supporting activities of daily living (ADLs), responding appropriately to challenging diabetes-related situations and behaviors, and promoting self-care for both clients and caregivers.

This one day specialty class follows the DSHS created curriculum. This is an 8 hour class & certificate which can be used for:

  • Meeting a job requirement

  • As part of the population specific training toward 75 hour HCA training completion

  • As continuing education credit

  • Any payments made will be fully refunded.
